GFI supporting the city of Nice in an NFC project

"Nice, city of contactless mobile” is a project designed to enable everyone to interact with their environment through their mobile phone. Nice is relying on GFI Informatique for deployment.
GFI NFC.JPG The implementation of NFC (Near Field Communication) technology in the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Art of Nice (MAMAC), represents the first step in a technological program led by the French Riviera capital.

Indeed, the elected officials of the municipality want to be the first to build a city of innovative mobile services. As an international player established in the technology park of Sophia Antipolis, GFI was chosen because of the added value contributed by the teams at GFI Labs, its mobile technologies and NFC R&D laboratory.

For the launch of the experiment in March 2010, GFI will equip a dozen works with an NFC chip and a 2D barcode flashcode. Visitors will thus be able to easily access multimedia content on the work using the web browser on their mobile phone.

While still at the experimental stage, the project represents an important industrial concern and, should it succeed, could become a package offer to other French and international museums. Moreover, as Fabrice Pakin, Director of GFI Sophia Antipolis, pointed out, "This experiment in Nice is a great opportunity to offer innovative digital services that are simple and practical in areas as diverse as culture, tourism, transport or trade”.
